The sixth Khelo India Winter Games, in Ladakh and Gulmarg

The sixth Khelo India Winter Games were held in Leh (ice, 20–26 January) and Gulmarg (snow, 23–26 February) in 2026.

The Khelo India Winter Games 2026 — the sixth edition — were held in two legs: ice sports in Leh, Ladakh, from 20 to 26 January, where figure skating was added, and snow sports in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, from 23 to 26 February, on the Kongdoori slopes. The Indian Army went into the Gulmarg leg as defending overall champion. The Gulmarg leg followed straight after the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

A new GDP series, with base year 2022-23

A new GDP series with base year 2022-23 was released on 27 February 2026, replacing 2011-12; it put 2025-26 growth at 7.6%.

On 27 February 2026 the Statistics Ministry released a new series of national accounts with base year 2022-23, replacing the 2011-12 series. 2022-23 was chosen as a recent normal year after COVID, with good data across sectors. The same exercise moves the Consumer Price Index to base year 2024 and the Index of Industrial Production to 2022-23.

On the new series, real GDP was estimated to grow 7.6 per cent in 2025-26, after 7.1 per cent in 2024-25; nominal GDP grew 8.6 per cent. Among the method changes are double deflation in manufacturing, the COICOP 2018 classification for consumption, and closer integration of the production and expenditure estimates.
