"Then tell the auto driver, so his daughter knows it's allowed." What does Papa suggest by this?

Question 110

MediumOriginal question

Papa: Your results are good, Riya. Ninety per cent in science. So, science for Class 11?

Riya: Everyone keeps asking me that. Sharma uncle asked me at the wedding. The auto driver asked me this morning.

Papa: The auto driver?

Riya: He has a daughter in Class 10 too. He wanted to know what I was choosing so he could tell her.

Papa: (laughing) And what did you tell him?

Riya: I told him I don't know yet. Papa, I got ninety in science, but I enjoyed more. I liked working out why prices go up. Science I just studied.

Papa: Economics is in commerce.

Riya: I know. That's why I'm asking you, not the auto driver.

Papa: (after a ) When I was your age, my father chose for me. Engineering. I was good at it, and I have a good job. But I still remember sitting in the drawing class, wishing I were in the history room next door.

Riya: So you think I should take commerce?

Papa: I think you should take what you want to keep studying when nobody is making you. Then tell the auto driver, so his daughter knows it's allowed.
