CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Downstream speed 402=20\frac{40}{2} = 20 km/h, so the boat's own speed is 20−4=1620 - 4 = 16 km/h and upstream it goes 16−4=1216 - 4 = 12 km/h.

  2. 4012=103\frac{40}{12} = \frac{10}{3} hours, that is 3 hours 20 minutes.

Worth noting

2.5 hours uses 16 km/h, the boat's own speed, forgetting the stream against it.
