Question 2

EasyOriginal question

a>b>0a > b > 0. Which of these is always true?

Options for question 2

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. For positive numbers, taking reciprocals reverses the order: the larger number has the smaller reciprocal.

  2. So 1a<1b\frac{1}{a} < \frac{1}{b}. The others reverse true facts: a2>b2a^{2} > b^{2}, −a<−b-a < -b, a−b>0a - b > 0.

Worth noting

−a>−b-a > -b forgets that multiplying by −1-1 reverses the sign.
