CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. She saved her pennies by bargaining hard with the grocer, the vegetable man and the butcher.

  2. Her cheeks "burned", a sign of embarrassment, because such hard bargaining silently suggested she was stingy. "Parsimony" means extreme unwillingness to spend money.

Worth noting

The imputation is "silent": nobody says anything aloud. She feels judged without being accused.
