Ordering sentences into a paragraph · Question 188 of 250

Question 188

HardOriginal question

Arrange the sentences in the right order to make a paragraph.

P. Most of Mauna Kea lies under the sea, so only about four kilometres of it shows above the water.

Q. The tallest mountain on Earth, measured from sea level, is Mount Everest.

R. So the answer to "which mountain is tallest?" depends on where you start measuring.

S. From its base on the ocean floor to its top, however, it is over ten kilometres tall, taller than Everest.

T. But if you measure from the base, the tallest is Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Q opens with the usual answer. T turns with "but" to measuring from the base.

  2. P says most of Mauna Kea is under the sea, S turns with "however" to its full height, and R draws the conclusion with "so".

  3. So the order is QTPSR.

Worth noting

QTSPR gives the full height, with "however", before saying how little of the mountain shows above water.
