CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Let the youngest be xx: ages x,x+2,x+4,x+6x, x + 2, x + 4, x + 6.

  2. 4x+12=444x + 12 = 44, so x=8x = 8.

  3. Eldest = 8+6=148 + 6 = 14 years.

Worth noting

8 years is the youngest. With four children there are only THREE gaps, so the eldest is x+6x + 6, not x+8x + 8 (which gives 16).
