CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Headings: north, east, north, east.

  2. Total north =5+7=12= 5 + 7 = 12 km; total east =2+3=5= 2 + 3 = 5 km.

  3. Distance =122+52=169=13= \sqrt{12^2 + 5^2} = \sqrt{169} = 13 km.

Worth noting

17 km is the total ridden. A zigzag of legs going only north and east can always be collapsed into one north total and one east total.
