CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Let a pen cost ₹pp. A notebook costs ₹(p+12)(p + 12).

  2. 3(p+12)+2p=1863(p + 12) + 2p = 186, so 5p+36=1865p + 36 = 186 and p=30p = 30.

  3. A notebook costs 30+12=4230 + 12 = 42, i.e. ₹42.

Worth noting

₹30 is the pen's price. Writing 3(p+12)3(p + 12) as 3p+123p + 12 gives p=34.8p = 34.8 and a notebook price of ₹46.80. ₹54 adds the extra ₹12 twice.
