CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. The terms go down, up, down, up, so look at the operations: 8÷2=48 \div 2 = 4, 4×3=124 \times 3 = 12, 12÷2=612 \div 2 = 6, 6×3=186 \times 3 = 18, 18÷2=918 \div 2 = 9.

  2. The operations alternate ÷2\div 2 and ×3\times 3. The next is ×3\times 3: 9×3=279 \times 3 = 27.

Worth noting

4.5 halves again, missing the alternation. 18 doubles 9. Seen as two interleaved series (8, 12, 18, 27 and 4, 6, 9), each is ×1.5\times 1.5, which gives 27 as well.
