CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. 9=8+19 = 8 + 1, so every power 9k9^k leaves remainder 1 on division by 8.

  2. There are 8 terms, so the sum leaves 1+11 + 1 + … (8 times) = 8.

  3. 8 leaves remainder 0 on division by 8, so the remainder is 0.

Worth noting

8 itself is not a possible remainder when dividing by 8 — reduce it to 0. Taking the remainder of just one term gives 1.
