Options for question 31

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. After the leak the tank holds 87.5% of the original.

  2. Original = 10500.875=1,200\frac{1050}{0.875} = 1{,}200 litres.

Worth noting

Adding 12.5% of 1,050 gives 1,181.25 litres — the 12.5% was of the ORIGINAL amount. Tip: 12.5%=1812.5\% = \frac{1}{8}, so 1,050 is 78\frac{7}{8} of the original.
