Which client has come about the locker?

Question 52

EasyOriginal question

A bank manager meets five clients, Nirmala, Omar, Pallavi, Raghav and Sukhmani, one after another on the same day, in the slots 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm and 2 pm. Each client comes about a different matter: a deposit, insurance, a loan, a locker or a pension. 'Before' or 'after' means any earlier or later slot; 'immediately after' means the next slot in this list. The following is known:

1. The pension meeting is the first of the day.

2. Sukhmani's meeting is immediately after Omar's.

3. Pallavi's meeting is at some time after Nirmala's, and Nirmala's is at some time after Raghav's.

4. The locker meeting is the last of the day.

5. Raghav's meeting is immediately after Sukhmani's. Neither Raghav nor Nirmala has come about a loan.

6. The insurance meeting is immediately after the deposit meeting.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Clues 2 and 5 chain Omar, Sukhmani and Raghav into three consecutive slots in that order, and clue 3 puts Nirmala after Raghav and Pallavi after Nirmala.

  2. Five people in the fixed order Omar, Sukhmani, Raghav, Nirmala, Pallavi fill 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 1 pm and 2 pm.

  3. Pension is at 10 am (Omar) and the locker at 2 pm (Pallavi). Deposit and insurance take two consecutive slots among 11 am, 12 noon and 1 pm, with deposit first; the loan takes the third.

  4. The 2 pm client, Pallavi, has the locker matter.
