Question 49

II. Some hammers are not levers.

Options for question 49

CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Every spanner is a wrench and every wrench is a lever, so all spanners are levers. Spanners exist, so some levers are spanners: I follows.

  2. The hammers that are not spanners may still be levers (the lever circle is bigger). All hammers could be levers, so II is not definite.

  3. Only I follows.

Worth noting

'Some … not' does not carry forward through an All. Being outside the small circle says nothing about the big circle around it.

Concept
Some … not does not pass through All
