Question 23

Conclusions: I. All doctors are literate. II. Some literate people are doctors.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. The two statements chain together: every doctor is a graduate, and every graduate is literate, so every doctor is literate. Conclusion I follows.

  2. Conclusion II is the converse in its weaker 'some' form. Since all doctors are literate and doctors exist, at least some literate people are doctors.

  3. Both conclusions follow.

Worth noting

'All A are B' does not give 'All B are A', but it does give 'Some B are A'. That asymmetry is the single most useful rule in this topic.
