Question 15
HardOriginal questionWhat is the present position of the Trusteeship Council?
Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D
Correct answer: D
Explanation
The Council supervised eleven Trust Territories as they moved towards self-government.
The last of them, Palau, became self-governing, and the Council suspended operation on 1 November 1994.
Suspending is not abolishing: it still exists under the Charter and can meet if the need arises, so it is still counted among the six.
Worth noting
This is why lists of the principal organs still say six rather than five. A body with nothing to do has not thereby ceased to be a body.
