Options for question 42

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. His average speed is 605=12\frac{60}{5} = 12 km/h. Alligate the speeds over time: walking time : cycling time =(15−12):(12−6)=1:2= (15 - 12) : (12 - 6) = 1 : 2.

  2. He walks for 13×5=53\frac{1}{3} \times 5 = \frac{5}{3} hours, covering 6×53=106 \times \frac{5}{3} = 10 km.

Worth noting

20 km splits the distance 1 : 2, but speeds average over time, so the ratio belongs to the times.
