CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. y=vxy = vx: v+xdvdx=1+v1−vv + x\frac{dv}{dx} = \frac{1 + v}{1 - v}, so xdvdx=1+v21−vx\frac{dv}{dx} = \frac{1 + v^{2}}{1 - v} and 1−v1+v2dv=dxx\frac{1 - v}{1 + v^{2}}dv = \frac{dx}{x}.

  2. tan⁡−1v−12log⁡(1+v2)=log⁡∣x∣+C\tan^{-1}v - \frac{1}{2}\log(1 + v^{2}) = \log\lvert x \rvert + C; the logs combine to log⁡x2+y2\log\sqrt{x^{2} + y^{2}}.

Worth noting

log⁡∣x∣\log\lvert x \rvert alone forgets the −12log⁡(1+v2)-\frac{1}{2}\log(1 + v^{2}) from the −v-v in the numerator.
