Question 16

HardOriginal question

A factory makes xx units of type A and yy units of type B. At most one-third of all the units it makes can be of type B. Which constraint is this?

Options for question 16

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Write each resource as (amount used per unit) × (number of units), added over the products.

  2. 'At most' or 'available' gives ≤, 'at least' or 'must give' gives ≥; a profit is maximised and a cost minimised.

Worth noting

y≤x+y3y \le \frac{x + y}{3} simplifies to 2y≤x2y \le x; '3y≤x3y \le x' takes one-third of type A instead of one-third of the total.
