Question 1

EasyOriginal question

The radius of a circle grows at 2 cm/s. How fast is its area growing when the radius is 5 cm?

CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. A=πr2A = \pi r^{2}, so dAdt=2πrdrdt\frac{dA}{dt} = 2\pi r \frac{dr}{dt}.

  2. =2π×5×2=20π= 2\pi \times 5 \times 2 = 20\pi cm²/s.

Worth noting

10π10\pi leaves out drdt=2\frac{dr}{dt} = 2: it is the rate per cm of radius, not per second.
