Applying for CUET (UG): form, uploads and fees

The CUET (UG) application is Online only, through the NTA website, in four steps: registration, the form itself, the fee, and the confirmation page. The fee starts at ₹1000 for up to three papers in the General category and rises by ₹400 for each additional subject. Nothing is posted to NTA — no document, the Confirmation Page included, is to be sent to NTA by post, fax, WhatsApp, email or by hand. The step most people underestimate is the last one: your candidature counts only once the fee is received, and a long list of fields is final from that moment.

What are the four steps?

The order is loose — all three steps may be done together or at separate times — but the application is only complete at step 4. Before you begin step 2, the bulletin's own advice is to read the prospectus of the universities you want admission to before you fill the form — because the form asks you to pick your papers, and nothing later lets you change that decision cheaply.

What do you upload, and at what size?

An application found incomplete — an indistinct or doubtful photograph, an unsigned form — gets no admit card at all.

What does CUET cost?

The fee is not a flat amount: Fee is calculated on the number of subjects chosen.

Only candidates on the central OBC list may enter OBC in the category column. A state-list OBC candidate who is not on the central OBC-NCL list chooses General or Unreserved.

How is the fee paid, and what if the payment fails?

Online only, through Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card or UPI. Processing charges and applicable GST are charged over and above the examination fee.

The confirmation page appears only after a payment succeeds. If it does not appear, the transaction is cancelled and you must pay again; the bulletin says duplicate payments are reconciled after the final result and refunded. Otherwise, No request for refund of fee once paid is entertained by NTA under any circumstances.

How many papers should you register for?

A candidate may choose up to 5 subjects, and the fee follows that count. Pick them against the programmes you actually want rather than to fill the quota of five — the matcher shows what a given set of papers opens, and the combination checker prices it.

The paper itself is offered in 13 mediums: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu.

What is final once you submit?

Most of what you entered is fixed from that moment: name, contact details, address, category, gender, PwD/PwBD status, educational qualification, date of birth and choice of examination cities are treated as final. During the correction window, Corrections are permitted in only certain fields, to be notified at a later stage.

Two more rules catch people out. Multiple application forms from one candidate are not accepted and lead to cancellation of the result, so one form filled carefully is the only safe approach. And the email address and mobile number registered must be the candidate's own — NTA answers nowhere else.

Your password must be 8 to 13 characters, with at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, one digit and one special character from !@#$%^&*-. If you lose it, the routes back in are the security question you chose, a code by SMS to the registered mobile number, or a reset link by email.

What this page does not settle

Whether a programme will take you. The application only buys you the paper; the rule that decides your seat is the university's, and it is read per programme in the college pages.
