Counselling and admission after CUET
There is no central CUET counselling. Each university runs its own, on its own dates, with its own merit list — what NTA does, what it explicitly does not, and where to look instead.
There is no central CUET counselling. NTA conducts the test and declares the score, and there it stops: NTA has no role in the preparation of the merit list, and each university declares its own counselling and admission schedule, and its own merit list, after NTA declares the result. That is why no single date, portal or merit list exists for CUET admissions, and why a question like "when does CUET counselling start" has as many answers as there are universities — 48 Central Universities among them, plus the state, deemed and private institutions that also admit on the score.
Who actually runs counselling?
The university: each university declares its own counselling and admission schedule, and its own merit list, after NTA declares the result, and refer to the website of the university you applied to for all admission-related procedures and queries.
Some universities run a single centralised admission system of their own across all their colleges; others admit per department. The bulletin does not describe either, because neither is NTA's.
What does NTA not do?
Three things it states plainly:
- NTA has no role in the preparation of the merit list.
- merely appearing in CUET (UG) 2026 confers no right to admission to the university a candidate wants.
- Mere appearance in CUET (UG) 2026 does not entitle a candidate to be considered for admission unless the programme-wise eligibility of the university is fulfilled.
Read together, they are the whole shape of the thing: the score is an input to somebody else's decision.
What does the university decide?
Everything that follows the score: the admission criteria, eligibility, rank in the merit list, medical fitness, verification of original documents, and any other criterion the university prescribes.
It also decides the rules that filter you before any of that — each university's own eligibility rules also apply, including candidates must fulfil the age criteria, if any, of the University / Institution they seek admission to. NTA's own eligibility is the wide half; the university's is the narrow one.
Where do you find a university's schedule?
On that university's own site. Details of programmes offered by universities along with their eligibility criteria are available on the respective university website, and The list of participating universities is dynamic.
This site carries, for every participating university, its identity, NTA's own course-mapping document, and — where the mapping has been read — the CUET papers each programme requires: browse the universities. Where a verified admission portal exists, it is linked on the university's page.
What does last year's closing score tell you?
That one score closed one round, in one category, at one university, in one year. Nothing more. It is not a prediction and this site publishes none; closing scores move with the paper, the cohort and the seat matrix. Used carefully they still do the most useful job available — they tell you which programmes were within reach of a score like yours, so you can shortlist before the schedules land.
What this page does not say
Any university's counselling dates. They do not exist until that university declares them, and the bulletin does not carry them. When a notice appears, it goes on updates with the notice it reports cited.
