CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Boys are 77−72=577 - 72 = 5 below the class average; girls are 80−77=380 - 77 = 3 above it.

  2. The totals balance, so boys × 5 = girls × 3.

  3. Boys : girls = 3:53 : 5.

  4. Check with 3 boys and 5 girls: 3×72+5×808=6168=77\frac{3 \times 72 + 5 \times 80}{8} = \frac{616}{8} = 77.

Worth noting

The distances are used CROSSWISE. Pairing boys with their own distance gives the reversed ratio 5:35 : 3. A class average closer to the girls' average means more girls.
