CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. ∣30×9−5.5×15∣=∣270−82.5∣=187.5∘|30 \times 9 - 5.5 \times 15| = |270 - 82.5| = 187.5^\circ.

  2. That is more than 180∘180^\circ, so the smaller angle is 360−187.5=172.5∘360 - 187.5 = 172.5^\circ.

Worth noting

180° pictures the hands as a straight line from 9 to 3, but at 9:15 the hour hand has moved 7.5° towards 10. 187.5° is the reflex angle, not the smaller one.

Concept
Taking the smaller angle when the formula exceeds 180°
