CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. B = 2, E = 5, D = 4, and the code numbers are 4, 25, 16, which are 2², 5² and 4².

  2. So each letter is replaced by the square of its position.

  3. HAD: 82=648^2 = 64, 12=11^2 = 1, 42=164^2 = 16, giving 64-1-16.

Worth noting

16-2-8 doubles the positions instead of squaring them; for B = 2 both give 4, so check E: 5×2=105 \times 2 = 10, not 25. 64-2-16 wrongly squares 1 as 2.
