HardOriginal question

In a code, BAG is written as 14 and ACE is written as 15. How is HID written in that code?

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. The sums do not fit: BAG adds to 10, not 14. Try the product: B × A × G = 2×1×7=142 \times 1 \times 7 = 14.

  2. Check ACE: 1×3×5=151 \times 3 \times 5 = 15. The code is the product of the letter positions.

  3. HID: 8×9×4=2888 \times 9 \times 4 = 288.

Worth noting

21 is the sum 8+9+48 + 9 + 4. No sum rule fits both examples: BAG has the larger sum (10 against 9) but the smaller code. 72 forgets D.
