CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. The code of a word is the sum of its letter positions. LIME: 12+9+13+5=3912 + 9 + 13 + 5 = 39.

  2. DUCK: 4+21+3+11=394 + 21 + 3 + 11 = 39. FIRE: 6+9+18+5=386 + 9 + 18 + 5 = 38.

  3. HOLE: 8+15+12+5=408 + 15 + 12 + 5 = 40. SAND: 19+1+14+4=3819 + 1 + 14 + 4 = 38.

  4. Only DUCK also gives 39.

Worth noting

Words with no letters in common can share a sum-code. Add carefully: HOLE and FIRE miss by just one.
