CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Fewest tiles means the largest tile. Convert to cm: 1872 cm and 1320 cm.

  2. 1872=24×32×131872 = 2^4 \times 3^2 \times 13 and 1320=23×3×5×111320 = 2^3 \times 3 \times 5 \times 11, so HCF = 23×3=242^3 \times 3 = 24 cm.

  3. Tiles along the length = 1872÷24=781872 \div 24 = 78; along the width = 1320÷24=551320 \div 24 = 55.

  4. Number of tiles = 78×55=4,29078 \times 55 = 4{,}290.

Worth noting

Using a 12 cm tile (a common factor but not the highest) gives 17,160 tiles, which is not the least.
