CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. The number of each item must be a common multiple of 12 and 18; least is LCM⁡=36\operatorname{LCM} = 36.

  2. Pencil packs = 36÷12=336 \div 12 = 3; eraser packs = 36÷18=236 \div 18 = 2.

  3. Total packs = 3+2=53 + 2 = 5.

Worth noting

36 is the number of pencils (and of erasers), not the number of packs. 30 is 12+1812 + 18, and 216 is 12×1812 \times 18.
