CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. The number is 2 more than a multiple of LCM⁡(6,9,12)=36\operatorname{LCM}(6, 9, 12) = 36.

  2. 999÷36=27999 \div 36 = 27 remainder 27, so the largest three-digit multiple is 36×27=97236 \times 27 = 972.

  3. Number = 972+2=974972 + 2 = 974.

Worth noting

986 leaves 5 on division by 9, 992 leaves 8 on division by 12, and 998 leaves 8 on division by 9. Each passes only some of the tests.
