CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Arrange the values in order first: 7, 9, 9, 9, 12, 14, 16, 20.

  2. There are 8 observations, an even number, so the median is the mean of the 4th and 5th values.

  3. Those are 9 and 12, so the median is 9+122=10.5\frac{9 + 12}{2} = 10.5.

Worth noting

The 9 on offer is the mode, the value that appears most often, and the 12 is the mean, 968=12\frac{96}{8} = 12. All three are measures of central tendency and all three are different here, which is exactly why the question names one.
