Question 19

MediumOriginal question

The circumference of a circle is 44 cm. Taking π=227\pi = \frac{22}{7}, what is its area?

Options for question 19

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Find the radius from the circumference: 2πr=442\pi r = 44, so r=44×72×22=7r = \frac{44 \times 7}{2 \times 22} = 7 cm.

  2. Then apply the area formula: πr2=227×72\pi r^2 = \frac{22}{7} \times 7^2.

  3. 227×49=22×7=154\frac{22}{7} \times 49 = 22 \times 7 = 154 cm².

Worth noting

The radius is the bridge between the two formulae. Going straight from circumference to area without finding it is where this question is usually lost.
