CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. 'Of' means multiply and is done before the other operations here: 14\frac{1}{4} of 48=1248 = 12.

  2. Next the multiplication: 6×3=186 \times 3 = 18.

  3. Then 12+18=3012 + 18 = 30.

Worth noting

Taking 14\frac{1}{4} of the whole of 48+1848 + 18 gives 16.5; taking 14\frac{1}{4} of 48+648 + 6 and then multiplying by 3 gives 40.5; adding 12 and 6 before multiplying gives 54. 'Of' binds only to the number right after it.
