Question 19

HardOriginal question

CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Numerator: 5×5=255 \times 5 = 25 and 5÷5=15 \div 5 = 1, so 5+25−1=295 + 25 - 1 = 29.

  2. Denominator: 5×5=255 \times 5 = 25 and 5×5÷5=55 \times 5 \div 5 = 5, so 25+5−5=2525 + 5 - 5 = 25.

  3. Value =2925= \frac{29}{25}.

Worth noting

Forgetting the −5÷5- 5 \div 5 in the numerator gives 3025=65\frac{30}{25} = \frac{6}{5}; working the numerator left to right gives 9 and 925\frac{9}{25}.
