MediumOriginal question

Assume the statements are true.

Statements: No tent is a pillow. Some pillows are blankets.

Conclusions:

I. Some tents are not blankets.

II. Some blankets are not tents.

Options for question 14

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. The blankets that are pillows cannot be tents, because no pillow is a tent. So some blankets are not tents: II follows.

  2. For conclusion I, draw all the tents inside the blanket circle but away from the pillows. Every statement still holds, yet every tent is a blanket. So I is not definite.

  3. Only II follows.

Worth noting

In 'No + Some' the definite conclusion runs from the SECOND group: Some blankets are not tents. Reading it the other way round is the classic trap.
