EasyOriginal question

Two electricians, Harish and Nandini, together wire a house in 8 days. Harish alone would take 12 days. How many days would Nandini take alone?

Options for question 4

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. Together they do 18\frac{1}{8} of the job per day; Harish does 112\frac{1}{12}.

  2. Nandini's rate = 18−112=3−224=124\frac{1}{8} - \frac{1}{12} = \frac{3-2}{24} = \frac{1}{24} per day.

  3. So Nandini alone needs 24 days.

Worth noting

Subtracting the days (12−8=4)(12 - 8 = 4) is the common slip. Subtract the rates, then flip.
