Options for question 52

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Both together: 18+112=524\frac{1}{8} + \frac{1}{12} = \frac{5}{24} per hour.

  2. In 2 hours: 1024=512\frac{10}{24} = \frac{5}{12} filled, leaving 712\frac{7}{12}.

  3. B alone: 712×12=7\frac{7}{12} \times 12 = 7 hours.

Worth noting

9 hours is the total from the start. 10 hours (12−2)(12 - 2) forgets that A also filled part of the cistern in the first 2 hours.
