Explanation

  1. The 9 and the 11 both contain the 4 who are in all three clubs, so those 4 were subtracted twice.

  2. Science only =30−9−11+4=14= 30 - 9 - 11 + 4 = 14.

Worth noting

10 subtracts 9 and 11 and stops, removing the 4 twice. 6 subtracts the 4 a third time.
