CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. If xx litres go each time, 64(1−x64)2=4964\left(1 - \frac{x}{64}\right)^{2} = 49, so (1−x64)2=4964\left(1 - \frac{x}{64}\right)^{2} = \frac{49}{64}.

  2. 1−x64=781 - \frac{x}{64} = \frac{7}{8}, so x=8x = 8 litres.

Worth noting

7.5 litres halves the 15 litres lost, as if pure oil left both times.
