Question 78

HardOriginal question

CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. [sin⁡x][\sin x] can change only where sin⁡x\sin x is an integer: at x=π2,π,3π2x = \frac{\pi}{2}, \pi, \frac{3\pi}{2}.

  2. At π2\frac{\pi}{2}, ff is 0 on both sides but f=1f = 1 at the point; at π\pi it drops from 0 to −1-1; at 3π2\frac{3\pi}{2} it is −1-1 on both sides and at the point. So 2 points.

Worth noting

3 also counts 3π2\frac{3\pi}{2}; there sin⁡x\sin x only touches −1-1, so [sin⁡x]=−1[\sin x] = -1 on both sides and nothing breaks.
