CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. By symmetry the area is 4∫0416−x2 dx4\int_0^4 \sqrt{16 - x^2}\,dx, four quarter-circles.

  2. ∫0416−x2 dx=[x216−x2+8sin⁡−1x4]04=4π\int_0^4 \sqrt{16 - x^2}\,dx = \left[\frac{x}{2}\sqrt{16 - x^2} + 8\sin^{-1}\frac{x}{4}\right]_0^4 = 4\pi, so the area is 16π16\pi.

Worth noting

4π4\pi is one quarter: the integral from 0 to 4 covers only the first quadrant.
