CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. Product rule on each term: 2xy+x2dydx+y2+2xydydx=02xy + x^2\frac{dy}{dx} + y^2 + 2xy\frac{dy}{dx} = 0.

  2. At (1,2)(1, 2): 4+dydx+4+4dydx=04 + \frac{dy}{dx} + 4 + 4\frac{dy}{dx} = 0, so 5dydx=−85\frac{dy}{dx} = -8 and dydx=−85\frac{dy}{dx} = -\frac{8}{5}.

Worth noting

−58-\frac{5}{8} divides the wrong way: the terms with dydx\frac{dy}{dx} add to 5dydx5\frac{dy}{dx}, and the rest to 8.
