The four Labour Codes come into force

All four Labour Codes came into force on 21 November 2025, replacing 29 central labour laws.

On 21 November 2025 the government brought all four Labour Codes into force: the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020; and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. Together they replace 29 central labour laws, many framed between the 1930s and the 1950s.

Among the changes: appointment letters become mandatory, a minimum wage applies to all workers, social security reaches gig, platform and inter-state migrant workers, and women may work in all sectors, night shifts included.
