Ordering sentences into a paragraph · Question 238 of 250

Question 238

HardOriginal question

The opening and closing sentences are given. Arrange the sentences between them.

Opening: For centuries, people believed that heavy objects fall faster than light ones.

P. This was hard to prove on Earth, where air slows a feather much more than a stone.

Q. The idea came from the Greek thinker Aristotle, and few people questioned it.

R. He found that, if the air does not slow them, heavy and light objects fall at the same speed.

S. In the late 1500s, Galileo began to test it with balls rolled down slopes.

Closing: In 1971, an astronaut on the Moon, where there is no air, dropped a hammer and a feather, and they landed together.

CorrectNot quiteAnswer A

Correct answer: A

Explanation

  1. After the opening sentence, Q says where "the idea" came from.

  2. S is Galileo testing "it", R is what "he found", and P says "this" was hard to prove on Earth, which leads to the Moon test in the closing sentence.

  3. So the order is QSRP.

Worth noting

SQPR has Galileo test "it" before the old idea has been traced to anyone.
