Options for question 53

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer B

Correct answer: B

Explanation

  1. Powers of 7 end in 7, 9, 3, 1; 95÷495 \div 4 leaves 3, so the unit digit is 3.

  2. Powers of 3 end in 3, 9, 7, 1; 58÷458 \div 4 leaves 2, so the unit digit is 9.

  3. 7957^{95} is far larger than 3583^{58}, so subtracting means borrowing: 13−9=413 - 9 = 4.

Worth noting

Computing 9−3=69 - 3 = 6 reverses the subtraction; when the first unit digit is smaller, borrow 10.
