Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Failed in Mathematics = 30%; failed in English = 25%; failed in both = 10%.

  2. Failed in at least one subject = 30%+25%−10%=45%30\% + 25\% - 10\% = 45\%.

  3. Passed in both = 100%−45%=55%100\% - 45\% = 55\%.

  4. 55% of total = 990, so total = 99055×100=1,800\frac{990}{55} \times 100 = 1{,}800.

Worth noting

Ignoring the 10% who failed both gives passed-in-both = 70%+75%−100%=45%70\% + 75\% - 100\% = 45\% and a total of 2,200.
