Question 2

EasyOriginal question

Evaluate 36÷4×3−5+236 \div 4 \times 3 - 5 + 2.

Options for question 2

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Division and multiplication have equal rank, so work left to right: 36÷4=936 \div 4 = 9, then 9×3=279 \times 3 = 27.

  2. Subtraction and addition, also left to right: 27−5=2227 - 5 = 22, then 22+2=2422 + 2 = 24.

Worth noting

Doing the multiplication first gives 36÷12=336 \div 12 = 3 and a final answer of 0; subtracting 5+25 + 2 together gives 20. Both break the left-to-right rule.
