Options for question 28

Show the answer and explanation
CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. As decimals: 35=0.6\frac{3}{5} = 0.6, 58=0.625\frac{5}{8} = 0.625, 711≈0.636\frac{7}{11} \approx 0.636, 914≈0.643\frac{9}{14} \approx 0.643.

  2. Or compare the two closest by cross-multiplying: 7×14=987 \times 14 = 98 and 9×11=999 \times 11 = 99, so 914>711\frac{9}{14} > \frac{7}{11}.

  3. The largest is 914\frac{9}{14}.

Worth noting

To compare ab\frac{a}{b} and cd\frac{c}{d}, compare a×da \times d with b×cb \times c; the bigger cross-product belongs to the bigger fraction.
