CorrectNot quiteAnswer D

Correct answer: D

Explanation

  1. 3.6 km/h=1h = 1 m/s. Let the train's speed be vv m/s and its length LL.

  2. Platform: L+180=20vL + 180 = 20v. Man: L=12(v−1)L = 12(v - 1).

  3. So 20v−180=12v−1220v - 180 = 12v - 12, giving 8v=1688v = 168 and v=21v = 21 m/s.

  4. L=12×20=240L = 12 \times 20 = 240 m.

Worth noting

168 is 8v, a step on the way, not the length. 228 m comes from reading 3.6 km/h as 2 m/s.
