CorrectNot quiteAnswer C

Correct answer: C

Explanation

  1. Let the faster tailor take xx days; the slower takes x+5x + 5.

  2. 1x+1x+5=16\frac{1}{x} + \frac{1}{x+5} = \frac{1}{6}, so 6(2x+5)=x(x+5)6(2x + 5) = x(x + 5).

  3. x2−7x−30=0x^2 - 7x - 30 = 0, i.e. (x−10)(x+3)=0(x - 10)(x + 3) = 0, so x=10x = 10.

  4. The slower tailor takes 10+5=1510 + 5 = 15 days.

Worth noting

Check the answer: 1/10+1/15=1/61/10 + 1/15 = 1/6. 10 days is the faster tailor; 12 days wrongly assumes both are equal (2×6)(2 \times 6).
